On January 21, 2020, Highway Equipment & Supply Co.'s Lock Haven branch commenced its expansion project by digging its first trench with a Volvo CE EC140EL crawler excavator.
Located at the building's west side, the 4,800-square-foot expansion will include:
Two new, bigger service bays with a crane
New, bigger parts warehouse with new parts bins
Office space for Parts and Sales staff
Conference room
Lock Haven's parts manager witnessed firsthand how much the branch's capabilities and customer demands have grown during his eight years.
"I'm really looking forward to the extra room we're going to have," he said. "The more parts we can stock, the fewer we have to order, so we'll be able to get our customers up and running right away. Highway's other branches have parts shelves dedicated to larger customers with frequent parts requests, but I don't have room to do that right now. With the expansion, I will. The additional two Service bays will also give us better turnaround so we can get customers in and out the door quickly."
The trailer on the east side where Parts and Sales currently operate will be demolished, and that space used for future purposes. Highway's vice president anticipates building to start in March with paving and concreting work completed by April or May. Highway's goal is to have the expansion completed by mid-summer.
"This project is long overdue. Lock Haven has evolved from a barn in the early 2000s to its current structure. We've outgrown our space, and increased our customer base and equipment population, so this expansion will allow us to better serve our customers and support the equipment we've put out in the field."
