With Volvo CE's launch of Volvo Active Control (Active Control), an automated grading machine control system, excavator operators can now hit target grades within one inch at the touch of a button. The system is now available on the EC220E, EC250E and EC300E models, but it is not currently available for aftermarket installation. “Volvo Active Control is a simple system that will benefit novice and experienced operators alike by making it faster for them to create the perfect grade,” said Excavators Product Manager Matthew McLean, Volvo CE.
Less Time, More Safety
Powered by Dig Assist, Active Control guides you through the functions to automate the digging process. Once you enter the job's parameters in the 10-inch, in-cab Volvo Co-Pilot tablet, the excavator automatically adjusts its boom and bucket movements to make precise cuts and deliver the grade angle you want. The drive-by-wire technology controls the excavator's electro-hydraulic system, allowing you to achieve the perfect job with only the left hand needed to control the arm speed.
Since the system gets it right the first time, you will save time on reworks and improve your jobsite safety by eliminating the need for a second person to take depth and grade checks.
Other safety and convenience features include:
Depth limit stops the bucket from digging below a pre-set limit
Height limit prevents collision with power cables, ceilings, etc.
Swing fence prevents the machine from hitting obstacles on the sides
Swing position control allows you to pre-program the pile and truck locations
With no hydraulic pilot lines, the machine is easier to service
